“In the flowers and blossoms, with their fragrance and their colorful quilts of petals, God smiles invitingly, as if to tell us, “Remember Me.” Paramahansa Yogananda.

The Farmer

I am a mother, a physician, a wellness coach, and an urban flower farmer. I have been growing and loving flowers all my life. But how, I became a flower farmer is a painful story. I hope that my story will inspire you to love flowers as I do.

In 2019, my life turned upside down when my 4-year-old daughter was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. It took two long years for her to return to normal health. I am thankful for her recovery. However, these two stressful years took a heavy toll on my body. I developed multiple health problems that were hard to explain. I visited multiple specialist physicians who could not to give a concrete diagnosis despite a wide range of tests. Of course, there was no effective treatment. Two and a half years later, I finally have answers- not one, but three autoimmune diseases. Apparently, my body's immune system is attacking my body. While there is some treatment to manage symptoms, there is no cure in modern medicine. This left me with unpredictable poor health... some good days, many bad days, difficulties with prolonged sitting and driving. I had to quit my main job because I could not drive and could not commit to fixed hours of work. I felt miserable and hopeless. By the end of 2022, I had hit rock bottom and life felt worthless. I knew that if I want to be there for my kids, I must stay strong and be alive. I needed to do something that I am passionate about and my body could handle but doesn’t involve driving or any work requiring fixed time-commitments.

Elizabeth - my dear friend - reminded me of my love for growing flowers. I spent more time in the backyard garden and rediscovered peace, calmness, and joy through flowers.  Taking care of flowers became my meditation and therapy. This nature therapy or green prescription has brought me more relief and hope along with the medicines. Now, I bring these flowers to you as my service to the community, so you may find the same peace, calmness, and joy.

The Farm

Life in Bloom is a small backyard farm that started in 2022. I am lovingly developing the farm with techniques that are friendly to the earth and to all those working on the farm. My mission is to spread joy and beauty through locally grown fresh flowers and plants to the Richmond community. The blooms from spring to fall include Tulips and Daffodils, Anemones, Ranunculus, Peonies, Exquisite Roses, Carnations, Gerberas, Gladiolus, Dahlias and Chrysanthemums. My team is dedicated to the seasonal flower movement and offer spring, summer and winter weekly floral subscriptions. We are so excited to support creative people who want to incorporate locally grown blooms in community events.

“From start to finish, working with Anjali was pleasant and stress free. The florals for the party were perfect and beyond what we could have imagined.”
